{"id":1246,"date":"2017-09-14T22:24:14","date_gmt":"2017-09-14T20:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/investinpeace.tssef.se\/?p=1246"},"modified":"2017-09-14T22:24:14","modified_gmt":"2017-09-14T20:24:14","slug":"new-study-shows-looking-after-the-soil-is-good-for-the-climate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/investorsinpeace.com\/?p=1246","title":{"rendered":"New study shows looking after the soil is good for the climate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study from Northeastern University and nonprofit research organization The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.organic-center.org\/\">Organic Center<\/a>\u00a0(TOC), though, has reached the conclusion\u00a0that soils from organic farms have\u00a026 percent more potential for long-term carbon storage than soils from conventional farms, along with 13 percent more soil organic matter (SOM).<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/civileats.com\/2017\/09\/11\/new-study-shows-organic-farming-traps-carbon-in-soil-to-combat-climate-change\/\">reported in Civil Eats,\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0this study analyzed soil samples from over 700 conventional farms in 48 states. Chemists Elham Ghabbour and Geoffrey Davies\u00a0 made the alarming discovery that these samples contained little to no\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.humates.com\/pdf\/ORGANICMATTERPettit.pdf\">humic substances<\/a>. Humic substances are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/franklin.cce.cornell.edu\/resources\/soil-organic-matter-fact-sheet\">one portion of soil organic matter<\/a>, which is made up of decomposing plant and animal matter.
