Richmond, Virginia, in the United States was known as \u201cthe great slave market of the South\u201d. Historical divides persisted.\u00a0In 1990, called to address the need for racial healing, \u00a0Initiatives of\u00a0Change launched at program called\u00a0Hope in the Cities (HIC).<\/p>\n

HIC set out to convene alienated and polarized groups in a\u00a0\u00a0combination of fact-based and relationship-building dialogues. Their success with their ground -breaking approach rapidly\u00a0created intense interest among dialogue practitioners nationwide, and their approach has been replicated in cities across the US as well as in countries in all continents.<\/p>\n
